FOCUS Marines Foundation
FOCUS Marines Foundation was started in 2010. A group of over 65 U.S. Marine veterans in the St. Louis area formed the Midwest Marines Foundation. Since renamed, the FOCUS Marines Foundation assists wounded Marines and Navy Corpsmen returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Their mission is “to develop and administer programs for wounded warriors that will assist them in their transition from military to civilian lives.” They seek participants for the FOCUS program among Marines and Navy corpsmen who are veterans of the post-911 conflicts, who have sustained significant physical or mental injuries, and who are no longer qualified for military service. Inflicted with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), they are isolated, adrift, usually unemployed and sometimes homeless. They struggle with feelings of worthlessness, loss and survivor’s guilt. Many admit to attempts to take their lives, some repeated attempts. Their goal is to reverse the downward spiral in which these veterans are trapped.
